“Men at Work” is a piece about how men compete. It shows a progression toward achieving power. Men attempt to breach a façade of institutional power. There are slaves and masters, cheaters and visionaries, all acting around a symbolic key. Once breached, the competition gets worse on the other side where one can literally get screwed. Cooperation both succeeds and fails between various men. Ultimately the struggle turns personal. It becomes a “survival of the fittest” in which the winner is never fully secure. This piece could also be titled “watch your back!” |
